Worship F.A.Q.s
Q. Do you make special provisions for folk with special needs, i.e. hearing or sight impaired?
A. We have large print prayer books for those parishioners or guest with visual challenges. At this time, regretfully, we have no one in the parish that is proficient in sign language. A copy of the rector's sermon is available on the web page, or one may be obtained by asking the rector.
Q. Do I have to pay to attend church?
A. There is no fee to attend church, however most people give money weekly as an offering. This money is used to support the church building (utilities, maintenance, etc.) and administrative functions (telephone, copier, paper, computers, etc.), as well as pay salaries for our staff. The amount you give is purely a personal decision. Most folks prefer to make a yearly pledge to the church.
Q. What should I wear to church?
A. You will see the gamut of clothing at St. Andrew's.Some folks dress up in their "Sunday Best", others wear jeans, shorts in the summer, or other casual attire.
Q. Do I have to take communion?
A. No, but it is the most significant shared activity of the worshiping community and a sacraments that feeds us on our spiritual journey, so please consider taking communion.
Q. Do I have to take communion in both kinds (bread and wine)?
A. Both are an integral part of communion. It is fitting and proper to partake of both elements. However, if there is a personal reason that you cannot drink the wine, just simply cross your arms over you chest as it is offered.
Q.Should I take communion when I have a cold etc?
A. Yes, perhaps you need it most when you are "down" but think about "intincture" (i.e. dipping the bread in the wine) so that you do not share your germs.
Q. What should I do if my child makes a noise in church?
A. Relax! The noise of children is a fanfare of the future. We believe that it is by being with the worshiping community that little ones learn about liturgy, worship and how to act corporately as the body of Christ.
